Prairie Sugar Weekend | Kids Out and About Minneapolis/St. Paul <

Prairie Sugar Weekend

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 10/06/2019
Prairie sugar, also known as sorghum, was made over 150 years ago as a sweetener for farmers and their families, and it was especially coveted during times when other sugars were scarce. Visitors can learn about the history of sorghum and about the many types of sugar and sugar substitutes that exist today.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

On the historic farmstead, visitors can help process sorghum into sweet, syrupy molasses and then see how the syrup can be used in gingerbread and other desserts. Then head to the Learning Kitchen to see sugar beets become granulated sugar, plus sample other sweeteners and baked goods made with them.
