Maps are amazing! In this workshop we will explore and compare a variety of Lake Minnetonka maps to learn about cartographic features and symbols. We will then use “kid-safe” woodworking tools to create coasters featuring Lake Minnetonka maps, design our own paper beads from maps to create bracelets or necklaces then design our own mixed media maps - realistic? fantasy? you choose!
Participants will take home:
> An investigation guide with cartographic trivia and patterns to create paper beads and projects
> A bracelet or necklace showcasing created cartographic paper beads
> Their coasters incorporating select cartographic locations and features
> Their original artistic map
Themes: Lake Minnetonka, Visual Arts, STEM
