Lake Minnetonka was once the home to six streetcar boats that helped visitors and residents alike navigate the Lake. Join us as we learn about the streetcar boats and their routes and explore how artists Rich Sladek and Mary Ostazesk capture them in their art.
We will celebrate streetcar boats, boats of today, and travelling on the water while we:
(1) Create our own artistic maps of a Lake using our own art and replicas of historic postcards, then code Ozobot robots (with color or block coding) to follow the path of the Streetcar boats and visit the historic locations along the way,
(2) Create 3-D pop-up cards using maps and our own art, and
(3) Create our own mixed media pieces focusing on water transportation
Participants will take home:
* Knowledge of streetcar boats, their routes, and historic stops along the Lake.
* An Investigation Guide with a reprint of an early streetcar boat schedule and route map, resources to extend the learning about the streetcar boats, and an ebook with how to do more with paper engineering and pop-up mechanics.
* Videos of their coding projects
* Their 3D pop-up cards, creative maps and mixed media artistic piece
