27th Annual Ice Harvesting Day - Richardson Nature Center

Celebrate the 27th annual Ice Harvesting Day at Richardson Nature Center! Experience the adventures of Minnesota's hardy ice harvesters. Cut blocks of ice out of the pond with a vintage ice saw and pull an antique ice plow. Weigh blocks of ice, use chipping tools to make ice cubes, discover food preservation techniques with historical interpreters and hear stories from ice harvest historians. Try kicksledding, throw a snowsnake and watch an ice rescue demonstration by Bloomington Fire and Rescue. Keep warm by a campfire. This is a great event for families, grandparents and all people interested in Minnesota’s ice harvesting history. Event activities may be modified to occur on land depending on ice conditions. Drop-ins welcome.
