This workshop is designed for 5th-8th grade students to learn how to deliver an engaging speech with strong emotions. Our workshop allows students to focus on methods aimed at performing a selection of one or more portions of poetry. Students will learn character development and depth, and convey ideas and experiences through language and expression.
Poetry is a selection or selections of literature either from traditional poetry, often characterized by rhyme or rhythm, or nontraditional poetry, which often has a rhythmic flow. Students will sample different types of poetry pieces, learn to tell stories, communicate emotions through the lens of poems and learn to create a basic introduction and the format to provide an oral interpretation of poetry.
This workshop is led by a coach with 8+ years of competitive and coaching experience and former president of the Maricopa Speech & Debate Team. Upon completion of this workshop students will have the opportunity to practice their skills at our annual internal tournament on Nov 18th, try our other workshops or enroll in our semester based classes.
