Jennifer L. Holm is a New York Times bestselling children’s author and the recipient of three Newbery Medals for her novels Our Only May AmeliaPenny from Heaven, and Turtle in Paradise. She is also the co-creator of the Eisner Award-winning Babymouse series, the Squish series, and the Sunny graphic novels, which she collaborates on with her brother Matthew Holm.

Widely embraced by educators, librarians, and children across the country, Jennifer’s novels have struck a chord with all who read her heartwarming and poignant stories, many of which are based on her own life and family. Reviewers rave about her writing, calling her other work “fun, fun, fun” (Kirkus), “a hilarious blend of family dramas seasoned with a dollop of adventure” (Publishers Weekly), and “a surprising coming-of-age story with a remarkably honest message” (The New York Times). Her timely new book, The Lion of Mars, which Jennifer completed before the pandemic, tells the story of how a regular kid living on Mars must save the day when a virus infects all the grown-ups in the colony. Kirkus calls the novel “a delightful space adventure” and a starred Booklist review says it “will have readers feeling right at home on Mars.” Will eleven-year Bell be able to uncover the truth and protect his family? Can he and his friends work together to unite the entire planet in the process?

Though born in California, Jennifer spent most of her childhood in Pennsylvania playing sports with her four brothers. After getting her degree at Dickinson College, she moved to New York to become a television producer before pursuing a career as a full-time writer. Today, Jennifer resides back in California, where she lives with her husband, Jonathan, two kids, and her two cats, Augie and Livie.
