Our technology-loaded lives can leave anyone eager to dig into nature and get their hands on plants. Studio activities, staffed by trained volunteers, will feature specific plants and take-homes for participants. Learn how to start cuttings, plant seeds, print leaves, weave fibers and more. Supplies provided.

February - March
Learning Center
Drop-in anytime between noon - 4:00 p.m.
You can start a new plant to take home, simply from pieces of leaves and stems. Become a plant propagator and grow your green thumb. Get a close-up look at leaves through a microscope, the place where plants turn energy from the sun into sugars that will fuel the growth of new roots for your cuttings. Treat any winter-weary spirits to a welcome dose of lush greenery in the "please-touch" greenhouse.

Tomato Time
Roll up your sleeves, select your favorite varieties, and plant tomato seeds for your garden! Discover new containers and planting ideas to succeed in growing your own tomatoes at home. Get ideas for supporting plants that are heavy with delicious harvest. Visit the worm bin and put together a worm casting compost tea bag to feed your tomatoes and encourage a bumper crop of flavorful fruit!

Tiny Tree Houses
Let trees offer inspiration as you make a tiny tree house perfect for fairies, elves, and pixies! Nature will provide the building materials - cones, acorns, bark, leaves, and twigs. Let the Arboretum team help you discover your creative spirit and make a mini masterpiece to take home with you. While you're at it, get advice on which tree would best suit your yard, and learn how to help it thrive.
August - September
Artist-Tree
Discover how to create colorful, non-toxic, natural dyes from trees and flowers! Mix and play with plant pigments as you dip and dye fiber. Use branches to form a natural loom and weave your own colorful, take-home memento embellished with flowers, grasses, and leaves.
