Acting 1

Develop clear and expressive physicality and vocal technique. Through improvisation and short scenes, use those skills to take risks, make strong character choices, develop character relationships and pursue objective. We recommend students take this class more than once, as this training builds the foundation for many of our higher level courses.

Broadway Dance

Delve into a rich dance experience to strengthen dance vocabulary, technique and performance skills. Tackle challenging and iconic choreographic styles from stand-out musical theatre experiences like West Side StoryHamilton and Chicago. Previous dance training recommended.

Broadway Voice

For singers who want to act and actors who want to sing, this class will help you become a stronger actor/singer. Learn the basics of vocal production, strengthen their voice and discover how to express character through song with group work and solos from contemporary and classic Broadway hits.

Musical Theatre: Rock Musicals

Explore ensemble numbers from the great rock classics of musical theatre such as Next to Normal, Rent, Hair and more. Learn to seamlessly combine healthy vocal/singing production with dance combinations while convincingly acting the part. 

Prerequisite: at least one session of Acting 1, Broadway Voice or Broadway Dance (or equivalent training).

Showtime

Work with a director to rehearse a play while strengthening existing acting skills. Go in-depth on physical and vocal choices, character development and stage movement. Students must be comfortable memorizing lines.

Acting for the Camera

Make the transition from stage to film! Gain invaluable tools for understanding the subtle mannerisms that are critical for on-camera work. Learn to read, prepare for and perform commercial auditions with professional input, direction and feedback.

Build on the skills you learned in Acting 1 while applying vocabulary and technique to scripted material.  Delve deep into next level acting skills as you learn to analyze text for objectives, stakes, obstacles, tactics and playable actions.

Prerequisiteat least two sessions of Acting 1 (or by audition).

Our Pre-Professional Training courses are for intermediate and advanced students seriously considering a future in the arts. Students will be challenged to expand their skill set in a disciplined and technique-driven atmosphere. Students will be expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment and independence and will be held to a high standard for focus, work ethic, attendance and punctuality.

Fate or free will? Power or loyalty? Strength or wit? Join Jason and the Argonauts on an action-packed voyage to defeat mythic creatures, overthrow a mad king, triumph over betrayals and find what destiny has in store. For the middle school actor looking to take their skills to the next level. Learn stage combat technique, deepen character development and script analysis while rehearsing a fully produced play on our Cohen Stage. 

Our Pre-Professional Training courses are for intermediate and advanced students seriously considering a future in the arts. Students will be challenged to expand their skill set in a disciplined and technique-driven atmosphere. Students will be expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment and independence and will be held to a high standard for focus, work ethic, attendance and punctuality.

Mainstage Musical Theatre Boot Camp (*Pre-Professional*)

This fast-paced interdisciplinary training program focuses on the in-depth musical theatre performance skills required for student actors performing on CTC’s mainstage. With an emphasis on learning, retaining and performing choreography and song, this course models the rigor, dedication and etiquette expected in professional rehearsal spaces. Students should have a foundation in basic ballet and jazz vocabulary and technique. It is pre-requisite that students have a mastery of pitch, projection and diction. Students will be held to a high standard for focus, stamina and work ethic. Enrollment in this boot camp does not guarantee casting in a mainstage production. 

Our Pre-Professional Training courses are for intermediate and advanced students seriously considering a future in the arts. Students will be challenged to expand their skill set in a disciplined and technique-driven atmosphere. Students will be expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment and independence and will be held to a high standard for focus, work ethic, attendance and punctuality.
