First Free Saturday: Kids' Film Fair

Join us for the Walker’s popular annual Kids’ Film Fair, featuring short films, children’s classics, and a preview screening of The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales. Plus, make your very own stop-motion animation film with artist Hallie Bahn.

Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 6 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.

Western Spaghetti
Stop-motion artist PES cooks up spaghetti with found objects—googly eyes, pin cushions, and rubber bands—in a boiling pot of bubble wrap.

The Elephant and the Bicycle
A garbage-collecting elephant dreams of riding a small red bicycle.

The Pocket Man
On a busy sidewalk, a tiny man living in a suitcase collects found objects for his home.

The Penguin
A penguin in the North Pole dreams of a life in the tropics. How bad could it be? Based on a French children’s song.

How Shammies Tidied Up
The Shammies have such a messy room, they can’t find anything! Mr. Cat helps them tidy up.

PES dices a pair of dice and squeezes a golf ball to make guacamole.

A tiger stuck on a lunch plate escapes and travels the table.

Fruits of Clouds
A wondrous tale of a tufted creature who shares a great discovery.

A laugh-filled triptych chronicles the heartwarming antics of animal misfits in a beautiful, hand-drawn animated feature. Audiences of all ages will enjoy fast-talking, wise-cracking barnyard critters tearing up the peaceful countryside. In French with English subtitles (adults may read aloud to early and not-yet readers). Directed by Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert. 2017, France, 80 minutes.

Classic Films: The Red Balloon and White Mane, 10 am–5 pm
Bentson Mediatheque

Newly restored versions of two timeless children’s films play throughout the day in the Bentson Mediatheque.

The Red Balloon
The beloved, wordless classic about a young boy who discovers a stray red balloon that seems to have a mind of its own. Together, they wander the streets of Paris. Directed by Albert Lamorisse. 1956, France, 35 minutes.

White Mane
A boy in the south of France befriends a magnificent white stallion from a herd of wild horses. With a new English translation, faithful to the original French narration. Directed by Albert Lamorisse. 1953, France, 47 minutes.
